The purpose of this study was to compare Sharia law with corporate social responsibility (CSR) with an application to financial investment. Promoting economic growth through business whilst ensuring that society and the environment do not become victims of businesses financial gains are one of the fundamental challenges faced by modern society and businesses. CSR suggests businesses should conduct themselves in ways that benefit society or reduce social problems. Islam stresses the concept of social responsibility. It is legitimate for a business to aim to achieve profit, but this goal should be pursued according to Sharia. CSR and Sharia law share the principle of the conduct of individual entities being regulated by its consequences. On the other hand, there are some differences between corporate social responsibility and sharia law. These differences and the question “are CSR and sharia law compatible?” have been explained with particular application to the financial sector. In Sharia law primary focus is on the individual; whereas in CSR main attention is to the corporation. To answer the above-mentioned question, justice is the supreme purpose and ruling spirit of the Sharia. Islam stresses the concept of social responsibility. In Sharia law, the social responsibilities of individuals also apply to firms. Thus it is legitimate for a business to aim to achieve profits, but its goal should be pursued according to Sharia.

This paper examines the following three questions: (1) In <em>The Rose Garden of Mystery</em> (<em>Golshan-e Rāz</em>), how does the prominent 7-8th-century Iranian Sufi, Maḥmūd Shabistarī, distinguish the mystical “contemplation” and “rational reflection” in pursuing divine knowledge? (2) Was Shabistarī an anti-rationalist (strict fideist)? (3) How does Shabistarī’s position fit into the ancient Greek, Neoplatonist, and medieval Islamic and Christian metaphysics? This paper examines <em>Golshan-e Rāz</em> in the context of Shabistarī’s other works, commentaries, secondary sources, and Islamic thought—Sufism and philosophy. Existing literature on <em>Golshan-e Rāz</em> primarily focuses on its <em>literary</em> aspects, neglecting its <em>philosophical</em> and <em>mystical </em>concepts. However, a thorough understanding requires examining these concepts in a broad context, which will inspire further research. The rationale behind this research is rooted in the religious obligation for believers to know God, with “thinking” as the means to acquire such knowledge. This is why the first question Herawī poses to Shabistarī pertains to the <em>nature of thought</em>—justifying this paper’s focus. Contemporary opposition to religion often stems from its perceived incongruity with the rational frameworks offered by positivism, materialism, or scientific inquiry. By differentiating between mystical and rational modes of thought that Shabistarī presents, this study shows the contemporary person that intellectual inquiry extends beyond rationalism and encompasses mysticism. Consequently, rational and mystical perspectives should be pursued in the quest for the divine. Furthermore, this study contends that Shabistarī should not be regarded as a strict fideist; instead, his criticism is directed toward the constraints inherent in rational thinking.

I argue that Suhrawardī’s concept of light, while placed in contemporary phenomeno-metaphysical contexts, advances metaphysical claims about the nature of reality by switching them from primacy of objects to primacy of relationships. To reach this conclusion, I analyze Philosophy of Illumination in the phenomenological key, and show that its logos is similar to the realistically vectored apophantic logic in Husserl’s interrogations. Both Husserl and Suhrawardī find epistemic absolutes: nūr in Suhrawardī and the transcendental ego in Husserl. As per Husserl, in the ego intentional relationships are ontologically inseparable from their object and have no substrate or qualities other than aboutness/asymmetry. By contrast, Suhrawardī qualifies light as alive (ḥayy), grounds it on itself, treats it as its own substrate, and describes it as a universally present self-identical form of relationships which has its own regional ontology. Suhrawardī’s maintaining that light, which is phenomenologically a special (peculiar) form of relationships, is in itself the epistemic absolute, as opposed to a self-contradictory absolute inclusive of temporality and objects whose being doesn’t belong to this absolute, gives his logic an advantage over the “zig-zags” of Husserl’s interrogations. The incoherence of the logic of phenomenology supplied, e.g., Michel Henry with a reason for the “ontological destruction” of Kant’s transcendental psychology and Husserl’s reductions. By contrast with transcendental reduction, which ends in the irreality of being, Suhrawardī discovers being as relationships. Thus, if we were to develop a phenomenologically-grounded science of all being, for Husserl this science would grant the classical ontological primacy to individual objects, while if we were to follow Suhrawardī, ontological primacy would belong to relationships whose nature is living light. Since light (as opposed to the transcendental ego) doesn’t carry a hidden dependence on the object, it is present as ground for all objects and, in this sense, transcends all opposites.

The article begins with an emphasis on the distinction between justice and human rights requirements. To clarify this distinction, two dominant positions on human rights, namely, humanitarianism (minimalist) and cosmopolitan egalitarianism (maximalist), are presented as unreasonable and unacceptable perspectives. To offer a more reasonable view, the article explores the ethical and political ideas that form the conception of human rights presented by John Rawls in his <em>The Law of Peoples</em>, which is more encompassing than what minimalists suggest and less extensive than maximalists argue for. Rawls’ political conception of human rights, the rights he considers as human rights, and the reasoning behind this conception are elucidated. Furthermore, the article scrutinizes contemporary Islamic thought and investigates the possibility of reaching an overlapping consensus on a political conception of human rights. The article proceeds to explain three essential ideas that necessitate Islamic support of human rights: the distinction between the law of God and human interpretation, the acceptance of religious diversity as a divine will, and the preeminent importance of justice in Quranic discourse.

Theoretical and intellectual foundations in designing teaching and learning models cannot be overlooked in learning. This is because how we view humans, the human perception system, and the truth beyond the perception system are critical in shaping the learning process. Therefore, this paper examines learning based on Mulla Sadra’s philosophical propositions in these areas. This is done through an analytical-textual approach and by producing propositions regarding the essence and purpose of learning and how learning is achieved. This article explains that based on the philosophical foundations of Mulla Sadra’s philosophy, the central point of learning is creating existential unity and removing obstacles to this unity between the content of education (<em>maʿlūm</em>) and the learner (<em>ʿālim</em>). Therefore, in designing the learning process, one should only have a discovery and facilitation approach and plan the prerequisites and conditions for acquiring knowledge, namely, creating existential unity. Thus, learning does not simply involve bringing the individual to act but has a dynamic aspect and provides a suitable environment for learning.

Travelling to different periods of Islamic philosophy, with contemporary questions, allows us to reconstruct the web of spiritual topics in Islamic philosophy. This work, which demands a joint effort—paying attention to modern spirituality and Islamic philosophy—requires methodological instructions to improve the results. Having a comprehensive understanding of contemporary spirituality and using interdisciplinary/multidisciplinary research method are two primary guidelines since both serve to classify questions, which is essential for a fruitful discussion. The unification of philosophical schools in the Islamic tradition, the negligence of the entanglement of philosophy with interpretation, theology, and mysticism, and verbal similitude, which traces the connection between the new era and the old only through the path of similar words, are the most important things to avoid. The inclusion of several contemporary problems in one traditional topic, the spread of one new problem in several traditional topics, the historical development of problems, and the high capacity of metaphors and allegories in Islamic philosophy—including “bird,” “light,” and “mirror”—need to be taken into account to conceptualize and extract propositions related to spirituality from Islamic philosophy.
