Abstract

This research deals with the effectiveness of the religious text in the poetry of the Iraqi poet Bashair Al-Sharad, taking her poetry collection "Portrait of a Masculine Face" (2026) and the poem "Portrait" as a model. It seeks to reveal the ways in which the religious heritage transforms into an effective semantic and aesthetic structure in the poetic text, not merely a quotation or verbal decoration. It proceeds from the hypothesis that the poet employs the religious text as a cultural memory and interpretive energy, giving the poem existential depth and a metaphysical horizon. The research adopts the descriptive-analytical method, benefiting from the concepts of intertextuality and cultural criticism. The poem "Portrait" was chosen because it represents the threshold of the collection and encapsulates its vision in the relationship between creation, art, and forgiveness. It aims to demonstrate the mechanisms of religious presence, examine the semantic transformations it causes in the poetic image, and determine the position of the experience in the contemporary Iraqi poetry scene. It also aspires to contribute to the study of Iraqi feminist poetry from a new critical perspective. It concludes that the religious text in Al-Sharad's experience is a transformative effectiveness, shaping identity, body, and memory in an open poetic context.
